How to moor at Aprilia Marittima: the boater’s guide
Aprilia Marittima is the largest marina in the Upper Adriatic, with thousands of berths spread across several basins in the Marano Lagoon. For first-time visitors — or anyone thinking of moving their boat here — choosing the right berth makes all the difference. Choosing the right basin
The complex is divided into several basins, each with its own character. Capo Nord is the northernmost area, secluded and quiet, with residences, a pool and services a short walk from the pontoons: the favourite of those seeking calm and a maritime-village feel. Darsena Centrale is the heart of the marina: closer to the channel entrance, with restaurants, the boatyard and most nautical services concentrated there.
The choice depends on your habits: frequent sea-goers appreciate Darsena Centrale’s proximity to the entrance; those who use the boat as a floating second home prefer the calm of Capo Nord. On the marina page you will find the full map of areas and services.
Berth sizes and types
Berths at Aprilia Marittima cover a wide range, from about 7 up to 25 metres, with solutions for motor boats, sailing yachts and multihulls. Mooring is generally to a buoy or between briccole — the characteristic wooden posts of the lagoon — with well-maintained ground tackle and beams.
When choosing a berth, always measure your overall length (tender, bathing platforms and engines included) and check the allocated width: a generous manoeuvring margin makes every return more relaxed, even in wind. Sailors should ask about the guaranteed depth at the berth and along the channel: in the lagoon, depths vary with the tide.
Access from the Lignano channel
Entry to the marina is through the lagoon channel connecting Lignano Sabbiadoro to the Marano Lagoon: the entrance is marked by briccole and navigation is straightforward even for newcomers, with care needed for the shallows on either side outside the marked channel. From the Lignano harbour mouth to the pontoons of Aprilia Marittima it is just a few minutes in sheltered waters.
In rough seas or strong wind, the advice is to enter on a favourable tide and keep an eye on the local weather forecast and tide levels: the Upper Adriatic has significant tidal ranges and the lagoon shallows do not forgive distractions off course.
VHF, assistance and marina services
When approaching the marina it is good practice to contact the marina on its assigned VHF channel to announce your arrival and receive berth directions: staff assist with mooring, especially for larger boats or in windy conditions. On the quay you will find water and electricity pedestals, sanitary facilities and showers, wifi and parking.
The marina also has a boatyard with haul-out and launching, fuel supply, and restaurants and bars on the pontoons. For routine and extraordinary maintenance, having the boatyard and assistance in the same facility as your berth is a concrete advantage that you appreciate over time.
The seasonal rhythm of the marina
The full season runs from April to October: in spring the marina comes alive with launchings, in summer life moves to the pontoons between lagoon outings and trips to Grado, Istria and the Venice lagoon. Autumn is haul-out and winter storage time, with the option of dry or in-water storage.
Winter does not mean a closed marina: many boats stay moored all year and outings on calm days as the bora dies down offer some of the most beautiful sailing.
